2010 to 2024 Recent Encounters: 

  • 2010 ICC T20I World Cup- It is the first T20I match between Afghanistan and India. During the 3rd match of the ICC T20 World Cup, held at Gros Islet, India clean-swept Afghanistan, winning the match by 7 wickets. India won the game by scoring 116 runs in 14.5 overs; in response to Afghanistan’s 115 runs in 20 overs. Murali Vijay’s 48 runs in 46 balls helped the Indian team chase the target. Whereas, Ashish Nehra’s commendable bowling performance of 3 wickets in 4 overs played a very crucial role in restricting the opposition. Nehra also won the Man of the Match title for his amazing performance. 
  • In the 3rd match of the 2012 ICC World Twenty20, once again India secured a win over Afghanistan by 23 runs. It is the crucial match between the two teams as India secured its 2nd win in T20Is over the Afghan Team, while Afghanistan managed to build its competitive spirit in the match. Virat Kohli (50 runs) scored a half-century in the match in just 39 balls and won the Man of the Match title for his exceptional performance. 
  • 2014 Asia Cup- In the 9th match of the 2014 Asia Cup held at Mirpur, Dhaka, India once again recorded a victory against Afghanistan, winning the match by 8 wickets. Afghanistan was invited to bat first and gave India a target of 160 runs. India scored 160 runs in 32.2 overs to successfully. Ravindra Jadeja’s excellent performance of 4 wickets in 10 overs earned him the title of Man of the Match.
  • 2017-2018 India v Afghanistan First Test- In the first test match played between India and Afghanistan Men in Blue secured an overwhelming victory, winning the game by an innings and 262 runs. India’s iconic win highlights their strength in the test format, whereas Afghanistan faced the challenges in their first test match. KL Rahul secured a half-century with 54 runs in the game, while Shikhar Dhawan (107 runs) and Murali Vijay (105 runs) each hit a century. Shikhar Dhawan’s outstanding effort earned him the honor of Man of the Match as well. 
  • 2019 ICC World Cup- In the 28th match of the 2019 World Cup held at The Rose Bowl, Southampton on 22nd June, 2019, India secured another win over Afghanistan, by 11 runs. For Afghanistan, despite the loss in the match, their competitive performance was commendable as they scored 213 runs in 49.5 overs. It highlights their growth in the ODI format.

  • 2021 ICC T20 World Cup-  In the 33rd match of the 2021 T20 World Cup held at Abu Dhabi, India again registered a win over Afghanistan, winning the match by 66 runs. Welcomed to bat first, India set the target of 211 runs for Afghanistan. In the second innings, Afghanistan made their full efforts to chase the target, but managed only 144 runs in 20 overs. KL Rahul (69 runs) and Rohit Sharma (74 runs), the opening batsmen from India, are the key players who scored half-centuries in the match. 
  • 2022-2023 Asia Cup- The iconic match was held at Dubai, where India won the match by 101 runs. Virat Kohli scored a century in the match by scoring 122 runs, whereas KL Rahul, captain of the Indian team, scored a half-century in the match with 62 runs. On the other hand, from Afghanistan, Ibrahim Zadran also scored a half-century with 64 runs in the game. 
  • In the 2023 ICC World Cup, India showed their complete dominance over Afghanistan, winning the match by 8 wickets. Rohit Sharma scored a century by scoring 131 runs in 84 balls in the match. Whereas, from the Afghan team, Hashmatullah Shahidi scored a half-century by scoring 80 runs in the match. 
  • In the 2024 series of the T20 Internationals, India showed their complete dominance over Afghanistan, winning the series by 3-0. In the first and second matches of the series, Shivam Dube scored half-centuries, playing a significant role in the series win. However, in the third match of the series, Rohit Sharma scored a century by scoring 121 runs.
