T20 Women’s World Cup Winners List (2009–2024): Full History & Key Highlights

Every two years, the T20 Women’s World Cup is held. Eight teams competed in the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup, which took place in 2009. Gradually, with succeeding tournaments, the number of teams also increased up to 10. The International Cricket Council is in charge of organizing the tournament. The 2024 edition was hosted by Bangladesh; meanwhile ICC has announced that England will host the tournament in 2026 – the number of teams will be increased in the 2026 season to 12. The T20 Women’s World Cup Winners List will provide a detailed analysis of the teams that have lifted the trophy and have brought pride and joy to their country.

2009 T20 Women’s World Cup Winner: England 

The first edition of the T20 Women’s World Cup was hosted by England, with a total of 8 teams participating. The cup final between the women’s cricket teams of England and New Zealand took place at London’s Lord’s. In the first season, England won the trophy after defeating the New Zealand squad by six wickets. Because of her outstanding bowling performance—four overs, six runs, and three wickets—Katherine Sciver-Brunt was named Player of the Match.

2010 T20 Women’s World Cup Winner: Australia 

The Australian women’s cricket team won the 2010 WT20 World Cup, which was hosted by the West Indies. The final was played between the Australia and New Zealand teams at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. Ellyse Perry was given the Player of the Match award for her brilliant spell of 4 overs, 18 runs, and 3 wickets. Her contribution helped the Australian team clinch a win in the final, leading them to their first Women’s T20 World Cup title.

2012 T20 Women’s World Cup Winner: Australia 

The Australian women’s team lifted the trophy in the 2012 season, hosted by Sri Lanka. The final was played at R Premdasa Stadium, Colombo, between the Australia and England women’s cricket teams. Australian women won the match by a close margin of 4 runs. Jess Duffin’s knock of 45 runs helped the Australian team towards victory, and she was named Player of the Match

2014 T20 Women’s World Cup Winner: Australia

The 2014 season was hosted by Bangladesh, with the introduction of 10 teams, and Australia emerged as the champion for the third time. The final match encounter was again between Australia and England. Sarah Coyte was named the Player of the Match for her bowling spell of 4 overs, 16 runs, and 3 wickets

2016 T20 Women’s World Cup Winner: West Indies 

The host nation for the 2016 T20 Women’s World Cup was India. The venue for the final match between Australia and the West Indies Cricket team was Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

West Indies shocked the world by defeating the reigning champion and registered the T20 World Cup title for the first time in their name.

2018 T20 Women’s World Cup Winner: Australia

The Australian women’s team lifted the trophy for the 4th time in the final match of the 2018 season held at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua. Aussie women won the match by 8 wickets, with a major contribution from Ashleigh Gardner, who was named the Player of the Match.

2020 T20 Women’s World Cup Winner: Australia

Australia was the host nation for the seventh T20 Women’s World Cup. The Aussie women became the champions of the trophy for the 5 time. The final match was played between Australia and India. Alyssa Healy was named Player of the Match for her crucial knock of 75 runs in 39 balls.

2023 T20 Women’s World Cup Winner: Australia

The Australian women won the trophy for the sixth time, demonstrating their supremacy once more. South Africa hosted the 2023 season, with the final match being played at Newlands, Cape Town, between Australia and South Africa. Beth Mooney was given the Player of the Match award for her brilliant knock of 74* runs in 53 balls.

2024 T20 Women’s World Cup Winner: New Zealand 

The women’s teams from South Africa and New Zealand faced off in the final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. With a victory margin of 32 runs, New Zealand took home their first-ever T20 Women’s World Cup trophy. Amelia Kerr was named the Player of the Match as well as the Player of the Tournament award.
